A Numb Heart

by Virginia Earl

As time goes by
Everything rearranges
Yet through the years
Nothing changes
Dreams come and go
Like sweet summer rain
Trickling down nameless faces

As time goes by
Nobody knows
What she’s really, really feeling
Inside her numb heart
As time goes by
She waits asunder
While whispering winds
Steal her thunder
Watching falling shadows
Kissing into the night
